What screws us up most in life is the picture or story in our head of how our life is “supposed to go”.⁣

We all have these stories. These stories don’t feel so much like stories when they are in our head. It usually isn’t until reality changes the story a bit that we wake up and say, “WAIT! This is NOT how things are supposed to be!” ⁣

We all have our version of how our “story” should go: ⁣

Your loved one doesn’t die. ⁣
Neither you or your loved one loses their job or health. ⁣
Your spouse never leaves you.⁣
Your kids are successful, healthy, and happy. ⁣
You get exactly what you want, when you want it.⁣

Learning to let go of our expectations of this life can be challenging, but it is where the healing can begin. ⁣

“When we see people on a roller coaster, we see that there are those with their faces tight with fear and then there are those that smile broadly, with their hands in the air, carried through the ride on a wave of freedom and joy. This powerful image reminds us that often the only control we have is choosing how we are going to respond to the ride.” Madisyn Taylor⁣
