Exercise can improve the way you think
Walking or jogging through a therapy session can help you relax and open up. In fact, the link between exercise and mood is strong. Usually within five minutes after moderate exercise you get a mood-enhancement effect.
There is also research showing that exercise can be a tool for treating anxiety by teaching you new ways to control your breath and associated heart rate with feelings of safety.
During our therapeutic walks/jogs, we are able to discuss everything we would in the office – just out on a walk instead.
One of my clients said that they found the walks help them process emotions easier by moving. Another client stated that the walks have helped him improve his own workouts by using some of the same techniques he learned during session.
How does it work?
We will start off in the office and get some water and anything else we might need for the walk. Then we will leave and go on a timed walk/jog. I will guide the conversation to suit your therapeutic goals.
We will return to the office and use stretches to finish off the therapy.
Exercise and counseling can help the brain buffer its stress responders.
So, put on your walking shoes, and let’s go for a walk or jog together.
