If you have anxiety and have linked pain to different social activities, certain locations, and specific events. Once you do such a thing your brain will do everything it can to keep you away from pain and you will instinctively want to avoid in order to not experience the pain. Your brain will even tell you lies like, “you won’t be okay”. These thoughts are all unhelpful when you are trying to change a behavior, decrease your anxiety, improve your life, and challenge yourself to be more than you are currently. If that is not hard enough watch what you link pleasure to as well. Habits are created by the brain to keep us from experiencing pain and discomfort. If you ever want to change you will have to face that which you find painful and that which you find pleasurable.
