Radical acceptance is intentionally letting go of having to have what you want at any moment. When we practice acceptance we acknowledge the fact that we have what we don’t want and it’s not a catastrophe. We can get in our heads fighting against what we don’t want to accept. For example, if your relationship is not going very well right now we first have to accept that and stop pretending that it’s fine, stop pretending that it doesn’t matter but honestly accept that the relationship is what it is currently. Identify exactly what it is that is difficult to accept, it might be your part in what is not going well, it might be what the other person has done or is doing. Whatever it is stop and say to yourself, “I accept this situation just as it is.” And once we fully accept it we can then figure out what needs changing. Remember we just need to accept the past and the present moment.
