Summer is just blazing onward isn’t it? As August rolls around and life feels a bit different than last August I wanted to check in with everyone and see how life is going? I have heard from many of my clients lately that the feeling of discouragement is strong. In fact, many of my clients have been struggling with uncertainty, discouragement, and motivation. So if you are there, you are not alone.
Discouragement can take on a life of its own. In fact, when people feel discouraged or depressed their first tendency is to go under cover and have a pity party. To shut other people out and isolate. But what we know is that isolation and shut off can increase your feelings of discouragement. It is important to remember that your brain listens to your body. Shutting off from the world creates a depressed feeling so you want to create something different. Remember motion creates emotion so movement is important, connection is important, getting away from discouraging news, listening to uplifting music, and letting go of your attachment to outcome will all help with your discouraging feelings.
Discouragement has a way of keeping you from the life you desire. We all need a break from over analyzing what is happening right now in our world and to find what we CAN control. There is always something you can do to make things a little better. Ask yourself, “What can I do right now to help myself feel more hopeful?” You might find that discouragement can lead you on a deeper spiritual journey. We can find hope in God, our faith, and deepening our understanding in who’s business we are involved in. This world is definitely God’s business. If it’s not your business guess what? You won’t be able to fix it. Find what is your business and start there. Discouragement is rooted in powerlessness so figure out what you actually have power to control.
