In our Zoom Coping Through Covid and Beyond Class today we discussed Powerlessness.
Here are the highlights. If you want to join in on the conversation message me for information.
During difficult times in our life, we can feel powerlessness pop up. It is never a comfortable feeling and has the power to keep us stuck and feeling like there are no options. But there are always options. Learning to accept the things we can not change and change the things we can
Is part of the process. You have far more power than you think and the power is what you can control in YOU.
Some steps you can take to help you get out of powerlessness:
1. Accept the situation without blame, complaining, or over-analyzing.
2. Identify what you can control and what is not in your control (serenity prayer)
3. Focus on small action steps you can take instead of the ideal outcome
4. Be open to suggestions and be willing to try different things
5. Identify with the feeling of vulnerability which all humans feel. Brene Brown says, “Vulnerability is courage in you but weakness in me. It is the first thing I look for in you but the last thing I want to show you in me.”
Powerlessness and vulnerability go together. It feels very vulnerable to feel like you are not controlling the situation and the outcome is not ideal. But remember you always have control over how you are perceiving the situation and how you are responding.
But it sure is hard being a human somethings…
