This week in coping skills we learned about how food is closely linked to our mental health. There have been numerous studies that prove this. There are also some studies that suggest food might have just as much of an impact on our mental health as medicine does. ⁣

We heard from Dr. Daniel Amen who created the Daniel Plan. He taught us that simply changing our eating habits and taking different supplements can actually reverse significant brain damage. How cool is that?! ⁣

Finally, we learned about how to help fight depression and anxiety with our food. We learned about consuming different spices like turmeric and nutmeg. We also discussed the usage of essential oils such as lavender, ylang-ylang, orange, rosemary and cypress oil to help turn our moods around. We talked about different supplements and vitamins to take when fighting anxiety or depressed mood.⁣

We often think about eating healthy when it comes to dieting and losing weight, but learning about how unhealthy food actually effects our brain is HUGE. I challenge you to really look at your food choices this week. How are these foods effecting your brain and your mood? Maybe it’s time to make a change. ⁣

See you tomorrow for this week’s coping skill! It’s going to be great!
