Counseling for Trauma

What exactly is trauma? It can be defined as a psychological and emotional response to an event or an experience that is deeply distressing. Everyone processes traumatic events differently because we all face distressing events through a lens of prior life experiences. Sometimes the brain will get stuck triggering our alarm system causing anxiety, depression, panic, and uncomfortable feelings. Many times we hold our trauma in a box and hide it under work and achievements causing us to keep outrunning the pain and uncomfortable feelings. If distressful memories or emotions from the past continue to intrude into your present life then it is important to process these memories and mine the elements of the events you need to integrate into your life. With EMDR and a trained therapist, you can safely process these disturbing memories and move toward adaptive resolution and freedom.
