Despair = Suffering (minus) MEANING. Viktor Frankl ⁣
“The way in which a man accepts his fate and all the suffering it entails, the way in which he takes up his cross, gives him ample opportunity – even under the most difficult circumstances – to add a deeper meaning to his life. And this decides whether he is worthy of his sufferings or not.” Viktor Frankl⁣

Our spirituality is an important coping skill. In spirituality, we can find meaning in our suffering and can turn personal tragedy into a human triumph. If by some means our suffering creates something new inside of us and develops empathy for others we have found meaning. ⁣

According to Viktor Frankl, a meaningful life is created in finding work you are passionate about, or experiencing nature, art, or deep love. But if all of this is unavailable and you are left with unavoidable suffering (pain, illness, heartbreak, etc). Then meaning can be found by the attitude we take toward the unavoidable suffering. To turn one’s predicament into a human achievement. ⁣

“When we are no longer able to change a situation — we are challenged to change ourselves.” Viktor Frankl⁣
