A British study found that there was a generational discrepancy when it came to communication of the reason for estrangement. 67% of the younger generation reported that they initiated the estrangement. While over 60% of the parents reported they were never told and did not consciously know the reason. So, they either forgot or did not listen. These numbers emphasize the breakdown in communication indicating that active listening may be the root of the problem.
